We approach it from Granton Road and from Goodmayes Road repeatedly, holding back each time until stopping short stops feeling rude.
Does a Goodmayes refresher use the same roads as a test?
To a large extent, yes, because there is only one road here and everything hangs off it. Green Lane, Barley Lane and the 20mph streets like Kinfauns Road and Castleton Road all appear on local test routes, so an assessment drive from your own door covers ground the examiners genuinely use.
Is Barley Lane worth including in a refresher hour here?
Yes, for two reasons. It meets the A118 High Road at a crossroads that asks for proper observation rather than a glance, and it carries the King George Hospital traffic, so it is busy at hours when the rest of the area is not. If your own week involves that hospital, it should be in the lesson.
