Automatic driving lessons are £37 an hour, or £350 for a block of ten (£35 an hour). Refresher hours for full licence holders are £41. A mock test with a full debrief is £50. Intensive courses start at £1,229 for 30 hours. Payment is by cash or bank transfer.
We teach in automatic cars only. Manual tuition has been discontinued, so every price below is for an automatic lesson in an automatic, dual-controlled car with a DVSA-approved instructor. There is no office and no premises to visit: your instructor drives to you, and the clock starts when you get in the car.

What an Hourly Lesson Includes
The hourly rate is the whole cost of the lesson. Nothing on this list is charged separately:
- Pick-up and drop-off anywhere in the 51 areas we cover, at home, work or a station
- The car itself, a dual-controlled automatic kept for tuition
- Fuel for the lesson
- Fully insured tuition with a DVSA-approved instructor
- Route planning around the test centre you will actually be sent to
- Feedback at the end of the hour, and a plan for the next one
There is no joining fee, no registration charge and no booking fee. Travel time to reach you is ours to absorb, not yours to pay for.
The Block Booking, Honestly
Ten hours bought together cost £350 rather than £370: £35 an hour, a saving of £20 across the block. That is the only discount we offer, and we would rather state it plainly than dress it up. Blocks are payable in advance. Most pupils take an hour or two first, decide whether they get on with the instructor, and move onto a block after that. Nobody is asked to buy one on day one, and buying a block does not change what happens in the lesson.
What the Intensive Courses Contain
An intensive course is a block of tuition compressed into days rather than months, typically around four hours a day over a week to ten days. The 30-hour course starts at £1,229 and suits people with some driving behind them. The 40-hour course is £1,580 and suits people starting closer to the beginning. Both are taught in the same automatic cars, on the roads around the test centre you will be sent to, and both are payable in advance unless we agree otherwise.
The course price covers the tuition hours. The DVSA fee for the practical test itself is separate and paid to the DVSA, and using our car on test day carries the small additional charge listed above. Read the full breakdown on the intensive course page.
Mock Tests and Test Day
A mock test is £50 and includes the debrief. It runs at the same length as a real test, on a real route around your own centre (Wanstead, Goodmayes or Chingford), and is marked the way an examiner marks. The debrief is the point of it: you leave knowing exactly which faults would have counted and what to do about them.
How Many Lessons Will You Actually Need?
This is the honest answer to the question behind the prices. The figure quoted everywhere is around 47 hours of professional tuition plus roughly 20 hours of private practice before test standard. It is a widely repeated industry estimate rather than a figure the DVSA publishes, so treat it as a rough guide. Even as a guide it is useful: at £37 an hour, or £35 within a block, it puts the total well above what most people have in mind when they book a first lesson.
It is an average, not a target. Some pupils test at 30 hours; others need 60 or more. What moves the number is your starting point, how often you have lessons (weekly beats monthly by a long way), and whether you can practise between them in a car you have access to. We will tell you where you honestly stand rather than putting you in for a test early, and we would rather you budgeted for the real figure than for a flattering one. Paying, and Cancelling
We take cash or bank transfer. We do not take card payments: card processing costs a percentage of every lesson, and keeping those fees out means the hourly rate stays where it is rather than carrying a surcharge. Block bookings and intensive courses are payable in advance unless we have agreed otherwise with you. Single hours can be settled at the lesson.
If you need to cancel or move a lesson, we ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Lessons cancelled with less notice, or missed without notice, may be charged in full, because the slot cannot usually be filled at short notice. Plans change and we are reasonable about genuine emergencies, but 48 hours is the standard. The full wording sits in our terms and conditions, alongside our complaints and refunds policy.
Do Prices Change by Area?
No. A lesson in Canary Wharf costs the same as a lesson in Walthamstow or Barking. The rate is the same across all 51 areas, and pick-up is included wherever you are within them. See the areas we cover for the full list, or ask us if you are just outside one.
