A mock driving test in Canada Water is £50, a full examiner-style rehearsal with a detailed fault debrief afterwards. It runs on the real Wanstead routes. The part of driving here that takes the most practice is the narrow, sharply bending Rotherhithe Tunnel and the busy A200 Jamaica Road corridor towards Bermondsey, so that is where the early hours go. We collect you anywhere in SE16, from your door, your office or your college, at no extra cost. Lessons are booked into a 7am-to-10pm diary seven days a week, and nothing is paid up front for a Canada Water session.
Learning to drive in Canada Water? We teach mock driving test right across SE16.
Because a typical lesson links the quieter streets near Canada Water, Rotherhithe with the busier A200 Lower Road and Jamaica Road, then builds toward the Barking routes, the driving you do here is varied from the start, and we collect you anywhere in Canada Water at no extra cost. There is more background on mock driving test if you want the general picture first, or you can see everything we teach in Canada Water on one page.
The Rotherhithe Tunnel is a strange teacher. Its Victorian bends and twenty-mile-an-hour limit demand a steering precision most learners never need, and then you come out onto Jamaica Road where none of it applies. A marked run off the peninsula shows how narrow that specialism is, and how much of your driving so far has happened below twenty-five miles an hour.
Mock Driving Test in Canada Water at a Glance
Mock Driving Test: The Canada Water Version
The Rotherhithe Tunnel's tight Victorian bends demand precise steering in confined space, and the peninsula's curving dock roads reinforce it. The mock shows how specialised that is. Nothing on either the Wanstead or Goodmayes route is that narrow, and neither centre marks anything resembling tunnel driving.
What both centres do mark is multi-lane commitment. Salter Road, Redriff Road and the A200 are wide but single-lane in character, so choosing a lane several hundred metres out at Charlie Brown's or the Seven Kings junction is genuinely new. Debriefs from this area usually open with lane planning distance.
The Roads You'll Learn On in Canada Water
The drive spends its first half on wide, forgiving roads being marked hard. Salter Road round the dock comes first, then the Lower Road junctions, where your positioning is looser than it feels from the seat. A reverse goes on Rope Street or Brunel Road, quiet enough that only accuracy counts. Then it heads north and the standard shifts to committing to a lane several hundred metres out.
Both centres lie across the Thames, so the mock includes the tunnel run and marks it. Wanstead is the usual choice, and the drive ends on Cambridge Park and the residential roads off Nightingale Lane. Standard there is decisive wide-road driving, the opposite of the careful inching the Rotherhithe bends have trained into you.
Mock Driving Test on Canada Water Roads
The Rotherhithe Tunnel has a width limit, so lorries never go into it. They take the long way round on Jamaica Road and Lower Road instead, which means your two local roads teach opposite lessons: a tunnel with nothing bigger than a van in it, and an A-road full of heavy vehicles swinging wide at every junction. Sharing space with a lorry is a skill only one of them gives you.
Collection is on Rope Street. The drive opens on the A200, Lower Road and then Jamaica Road, working the junctions where the lorries turn and the blind spots that come with sitting beside one. The tunnel portal gets an approach and nothing more. Then it is back onto the peninsula, round Salter Road and Redriff Road for the curves and the roundabouts. Brunel Road takes the reverse, and the debrief happens at the kerb there.
Surrey Quays shifts, the new blocks going up around Canada Water dock, and people who work north of the river in Mock Driving Test in Wapping and beyond and are tired of choosing between the tunnel and a long detour. Southwark Park families make up the rest. Nearly all of them have driven the peninsula and very little else, which is a smaller world than it feels from behind the wheel.
Passing First Time from Canada Water
- book the mock for the same time of day your test falls, then use the tunnel run as part of the rehearsal. The Rotherhithe bends at eight and at midday are different jobs, and the crossing is what unsettles people before any marking starts
- drill the mistake Canada Water's roads produce most: drifting wide on the tight bends inside the Rotherhithe Tunnel, where the lane is narrow and the wall is close on both sides
- allow for about 25–33 minutes' drive to Wanstead so you arrive calm, not rushed
- learn the show me, tell me questions properly rather than skimming them
Before You Book in Canada Water
Distance shapes when the mock is worth taking. With the nearest centre 10.5km away through the Rotherhithe Tunnel, a rehearsal is a half-day rather than an hour, so it should sit where it can change something: roughly a fortnight before the appointment, with time left for two or three lessons on whatever the sheet shows.
For SE16 the honest question is whether the travel makes the fee poor value. Half a day and £50 is a lot if your test is months away. A fortnight out, with the crossing and the centre's roads both rehearsed, it is the most useful half-day available.

Mock Driving Test in Canada Water: FAQs
Should I take a mock before booking my test?
It's the sensible order. £50 for a mock costs less than a failed test fee and a lost slot, and it answers the question of whether you're ready.
Can I have the same instructor each time?
That's what we aim for; continuity matters, and it saves you repeating your progress at the start of every lesson in Canada Water.
Do I get anything in writing after the mock test?
Yes, the marked sheet, and it is yours to keep. Every fault is tied to where it happened, so a drift on the Rotherhithe bends and a late mirror check on Lower Road never blur into one vague impression. That is the part worth the fee: a page you can work through with whoever supervises your private practice around Salter Road.
How long should I allow for a mock test from Canada Water?
Around three hours, sometimes more. The nearest centres we work towards are 10.5km away with a river crossing, so the journey is a real part of the booking. The marked drive runs the standard length on the test centre's own roads, and the debrief happens before the return trip rather than after it.
Should I practise bay parking at Surrey Quays before the test?
Not for the test itself. Bay parking is only set where a centre has a car park to do it in, and the ones we head for start from residential roads, so expect a parallel park or a pull up on the right instead. The Surrey Quays car park is still worth an hour for clearance and slow control before you take the tunnel in traffic.
Which test centre would a mock test from Canada Water head for?
Whichever one you are booked at, which for SE16 is normally Wanstead or Goodmayes. Both mean crossing the river, so allow for the journey time. The mock still runs the full format on the test centre's own roads, because rehearsing on Lower Road and Jamaica Road would tell you very little about what either examiner marks.
