What You Actually Practise in Canary Wharf
Manoeuvres get done on the side roads around Mastmaker Road, beside Millwall Inner Dock, where the kerbs are clear and nobody is hooting at you.
Road work builds from there: the bascule crossing at Cubitt Town, which halts both directions when it lifts, then full laps of Westferry Circus until choosing a deck stops feeling like a guess. Your test will be at Goodmayes, so dual-carriageway lane work goes in from the middle sessions onward.
Test standard here means leaving a 20mph estate road, taking the Aspen Way slip and settling at speed without a wobble in your steering. The run out to Goodmayes is long enough to be its own lesson, so we drive it properly two or three times before your date rather than describing it to you.
What Changes in Canary Wharf
The Wharf's estate roads carry more people than cars in the middle of the day. Between roughly twelve and two the pavements around One Canada Square and West India Quay empty into the carriageway, and people step off looking at a phone rather than at your bonnet.
Marsh Wall is the worst of it. You learn to drive here with your eyes on the kerbs, and to keep firm pressure on the brake while a group crosses.
Most pupils are collected on Lightermans Road or one of the turnings off Marsh Wall, where there is somewhere legal to stop. The first twenty minutes go on the dock-side streets beside Millwall Inner Dock, doing stops and moving off.
Then Marsh Wall eastbound, up onto Westferry Road, and a run of laps at Westferry Circus. The last stretch comes back in past South Quay DLR so you finish on something familiar.
Two sorts of people book here. Staff in the towers who have never needed a car in London and now have a job, a baby or a house move that will not work on the Jubilee line. And residents of the flats above the estate, who have a bay in the basement and nobody to practise with. Both want daytime hours rather than evenings.

Lesson timing matters more here than in most places. Between eight and half past nine the estate roads fill with cars heading for the Jubilee and Elizabeth line entrances, and the same happens in reverse after five. Most pupils here book mid-morning or early afternoon, and we meet on Marsh Wall or near South Quay rather than in the estate core, where stopping is restricted.
The common worry here is time rather than driving: shifts change and lessons get cancelled. We can hold the same slot each week and collect you from your building, but if your diary genuinely moves week to week, booking a block in larger chunks works better than a fixed hour.
