A Wide Car on Shoreditch Streets
Great Eastern Street carries several lanes and takes a wide car easily. Curtain Road and the blocks off it do not. Those streets have loading bays on both sides, a cycle route running through and a stopped delivery vehicle somewhere along most of them, so the running width often comes down to one car.
In something wide you cannot ease past a stationary van with a rider coming through, so you wait, in a place where waiting feels conspicuous.
The size is an asset on the A10 and Kingsland Road, where the lanes are wide and being seen matters more than being small. It is a liability on the estate streets around Arnold Circus and on the loading blocks, where a three-point turn becomes a five-point one. If your own car is large, that liability is the argument for learning in one rather than a reason to avoid it.
