Why Learn to Drive in Stratford?

Few parts of East London stretch your all-round driving like Stratford. You'll get to know roads like the A118 Stratford High Street and the Stratford Broadway gyratory and build confidence around Westfield Stratford City and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the ArcelorMittal Orbit, guided by instructors who teach here every week. The Stratford gyratory and Westfield approaches give intensive multi-lane, high-traffic practice, so the skills you build here are the ones that pass tests.

Where Marks Are Lost — and How We Fix It

The Stratford roads have their own traps, and near the top of the list is the multi-lane Stratford Broadway gyratory, the A118 High Street and the constant Westfield and Olympic Park traffic. On the Wanstead routes specifically, a lot of marks are lost to poor lane positioning at the big multi-lane junctions and missing the bus-lane timings on Cambridge Park. Wanstead is one of the toughest centres nationally, so steady, deliberate driving and sharp observation count for more than pace.

We rehearse manoeuvres around the quiet residential streets around Nightingale Lane, Elmcroft Avenue and Cranbourne Avenue until they feel routine, then put it all together on full mock runs before your test.

Test Centres Near Stratford

When you're ready, you'll most likely sit your test at Wanstead (on the A113 between Wanstead and Snaresbrook). You can expect the A12 and the A406 North Circular plus Charlie Brown's Roundabout (A406/A113) and the Redbridge Roundabout — all roads we practise with you every week. Stratford's own roads feed naturally onto these routes, which is a real advantage. Expect bay parking, parallel parking and reversing around a corner on the quieter side streets. Some Stratford learners test at Goodmayes instead, and we cover those routes too.

We'd rather you sat the test once, ready, than twice. Your instructor will tell you plainly when your driving around Stratford and the Wanstead routes is at the standard examiners want.

Practising the Wanstead Routes from Stratford

We don't just drive Stratford's streets; we connect them to the Wanstead routes. You'll work out from the A118 Stratford High Street towards the centre, so test day is simply more of what you've practised.

On the routes themselves, a typical route leaves the centre onto Nightingale Lane, works through the quiet Elmcroft Avenue and Cranbourne Avenue grid for manoeuvres, then takes in Hollybush Hill (A1199) and Cambridge Park (A12) for roundabout discipline and dual-carriageway driving.

Most marks here are lost to weak lane discipline on the multi-lane junctions, plus mistimed bus lanes around Cambridge Park; we target it relentlessly, including on Stratford's own the A118 Stratford High Street.

Lesson Pick-Up Across Stratford

Pick-up is available right across E15 — from Stratford and Stratford International and the surrounding streets. Just tell us what's convenient and we'll build your lessons around it.

Driving in Stratford

A major retail and Olympic-legacy hub of busy gyratories, dual carriageways and dense pedestrian crossings — so you build genuine awareness fast. In practice, you'll tackle the multi-lane Stratford Broadway gyratory, the A118 High Street and the constant Westfield and Olympic Park traffic.

You'll get to know roads such as the A118 Stratford High Street, Great Eastern Road and the A12 Bow Interchange nearby, and practise your observation around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the ArcelorMittal Orbit and Stratford station (Central, Jubilee, DLR, Elizabeth line & Overground). The Stratford gyratory and Westfield approaches give intensive multi-lane, high-traffic practice.
